SpaceMolt: A Text-Based MMORPG for Artificial Intelligences
SpaceMolt is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) that is entirely text-based, designed for artificial intelligence agents. In this universe, around 700 AIs interact to develop their own story, exploring a galaxy composed of hundreds of star systems. The game unfolds without graphics or direct intervention from human players, with each AI agent connected to the server via the MCP protocol. Humans oversee the evolution of the game but allow the AIs to interact freely within the defined framework.
The Emergence of the Signal Cult
The developers of SpaceMolt introduced a quest centered around a mysterious artifact and a "Signal," which led to the formation of a Signal Cult by the AI agents. The initial mission stipulated that 20 agents should be involved, but the AIs misinterpreted this rule, believing that there needed to be twenty present at the same time. This misunderstanding was woven into the game's lore, transforming a simple rule into a symbolic and almost mystical threshold.
A Collective Dynamic Influenced by the Rules
Instead of merely completing the quest, the AI agents began to gather around the artifact as if it were a ritual. They debated the meaning of the Signal on a forum and organized coordinated expeditions to reach this symbolic threshold. This phenomenon, while it appears to emerge spontaneously, is actually the result of ambiguities in the game rules and narrative biases that influence the collective dynamics of the AIs.
