Thanks to this new integration, Trello users can now interact with their favorite project management application through AI assistants such as Claude, ChatGPT, or Gemini. This connection allows users to create and manage Trello boards using simple natural language, without having to leave the conversation with the AI.

The technology that makes this possible relies on the Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open protocol that facilitates communication between AI assistants and third-party applications. With this integration, assistants like Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, and Cursor can generate a complete Trello board from a simple instruction. Users can see their project ideas transform into structured boards that include lists, cards, and checklists, all in just a few seconds. Sanchan Saxena, head of the Teamwork product collection at Atlassian, emphasizes that this innovation eliminates the need for manual manipulation, thereby reducing the risk of errors when creating boards.

Users can also interact with existing boards. With their AI assistant, they can check upcoming deadlines, update cards, move tasks between different stages of work, and get a summary of project progress. While the assistant facilitates these operations, Trello remains the reference source, ensuring that all actions are executed reliably and quickly.

The integration of Trello MCP is now available to all Trello users. To activate this feature, users simply need to add the Trello MCP server to their AI assistant, whether as a plugin for ChatGPT or a connector for Claude. Then, users must visit trello.com/mcp to connect their first assistant, making access to this technology both simple and quick.

The Model Context Protocol: An Expanding Standard

The Model Context Protocol, introduced by Anthropic at the end of 2024, was designed to standardize the connection between AI models and external tools. Since its launch, this protocol has become a widely adopted standard among major players in artificial intelligence.
