Twitch: Streamers Reject Use of Their Content by AI

Twitch users can now refuse to have their content used to train Amazon's generative AI models. This refusal means that "your streams, VODs, clips, stream chats, as well as images and text on your channel" will not be used in the "future training" of an Amazon AI model aimed at generating or synthesizing text, audio, images, or videos, according to a Twitch support page.

Other "AI-supported" features, such as subtitles and safety tools, will continue to function even if you opt out of generative AI training. However, if you participate in a chat on someone else's stream, "that person's opt-out preferences will determine whether that chat can be used for training," Twitch clarifies.

The "Generative AI Training" button is located in the Twitch settings under the Security and Privacy tab. It was enabled when I found it, and I asked Amazon if this was the default setting.

• Allow your channel's content to train generative AI content models at Amazon.
• Disabling this does not exclude you from the use of your channel content by Twitch and Amazon for other purposes described in the Twitch Privacy Notice, including the use of Twitch features supported by AI that benefit the community by facilitating the growth and monetization of streamers (such as real-time assistance for sponsorship campaigns), viewer discovery (such as recommendations), and community safety (such as AutoMod).
