OpenAI Unveils New Pricing Plan for ChatGPT Pro
OpenAI has recently introduced a new pricing plan for its ChatGPT Pro service, offered at $100. This initiative has sparked some confusion regarding usage limits compared to the existing $200 plan. Thibault Sottiaux, an OpenAI employee, attempted to clarify these differences, although his explanations did not fully dispel the doubts.
Usage Limits Explained
According to Thibault Sottiaux, the $100 plan allows for usage that is at least ten times greater than that of the Plus plan, while the $200 plan offers usage that is at least twenty times greater. However, these figures include a temporary 2x bonus that is in effect until May 31. This bonus has been applied to the $200 plan since February, but OpenAI had not communicated this information explicitly.
After the Bonus, Uncertainties Remain
Once the bonus expires at the end of May, users may see their usage reduced to at least five times and ten times that of the Plus plan, respectively for the $100 and $200 plans. However, Sottiaux did not definitively confirm these baseline values.
Confusing Communication
The confusion has been fueled by OpenAI's pricing page, which indicated usages of "5x or 20x." According to Sottiaux, these descriptions misled many users, leading them to believe that the 2x bonus would double these figures to ten times and forty times. In reality, "20x" was already the inflated value for the $200 plan, while "5x" represented the baseline value for the $100 plan.
