Yann LeCun: From Entrepreneurship to Investment

The French researcher is in discussions with institutional investors, often referred to as LPs (Limited Partners), to finance a new fund dedicated to AI.
Since his departure from Meta, LeCun has been making numerous appearances at major tech conferences. Recently, he shared his vision of AI at the Raise Summit in Paris, a vision that contrasts with those of American giants such as OpenAI and Meta. His new project, an investment fund, aims to raise 200 million euros, according to information from Sifted.
Extelligence Invest: An Alternative to Silicon Valley
Yann LeCun's fund, named Extelligence Invest, focuses on various sectors, ranging from data infrastructure to artificial intelligence, as well as health technologies and human longevity. LeCun also aims to support deeptech, with a particular interest in robotics, new mobility, and high-performance computing (HPC).
Unlike Silicon Valley, which LeCun believes is too focused on generative models such as those developed by OpenAI and Anthropic, Extelligence Invest aims to be a catalyst for disruptive technologies. The researcher has expressed his criticism of this fascination with generative models, emphasizing the importance of exploring other technological avenues.

By positioning himself as both an entrepreneur with AMI Labs and an investor with Extelligence Invest, Yann LeCun establishes himself as a central figure in AI in France. His initiatives, whether it be his startup focused on world models or his investment fund, are closely watched by the industry.
