YouTube Music Labels AI Without Blocking Monetization

YouTube Music is rolling out labels to indicate the role of AI in tracks, without making these titles ineligible for monetization. This initiative is part of a broader experimentation phase, as Deezer, TIDAL, Spotify, and Apple Music each implement their own safeguards and markers for AI.
Restrictions, Royalties, and Numbers: Diverging Strategies
Several services are tightening control over AI-generated tracks. Deezer labels these songs, removes them from algorithmic recommendations and editorial playlists, and withholds royalties from fraudulent streams. In July, the platform reported receiving nearly 90,000 tracks fully generated by AI each day. TIDAL also flags recordings entirely created by AI, gives listeners the option to disable them, and excludes them from royalty distribution. Spotify already has AI-related labels and a musical anti-spam filter, while Apple Music plans to introduce Made With AI labels later this year as part of its AI Transparency Tags. Deezer is concurrently working on an option to allow users to filter this content.
YouTube is taking a different approach, focused on disclosure. Its labels aim to inform about the role of AI, and the use of AI alone is not sufficient to render a title non-monetizable.

What the Listener Will See: A Label on the Player and Details on Click
In YouTube Music, a label will appear directly on the player page. By clicking on it, the listener will access details about the exact contribution of AI in the creation of the track, whether for composition or vocals. The extension of this feature to the main YouTube app is also planned.
For Rights Holders: Standardized Declarations and In-House Detection
YouTube has stated that it has worked with partners in the music industry and established its own detection systems to identify content created using AI. Partners have three categories to indicate the use of AI: Fully Gen AI for titles created exclusively by AI, Partly Gen AI for works combining generated elements and live contributions, and No Gen AI for tracks simply modified using tools like Auto-Tune. Meanwhile, the platform is experimenting with AI music creation through Dream Track, accessible to select creators and capable of producing soundtracks with AI versions of participating artists' voices. The rollout of these labels was announced on Wednesday, as the rise of AI-generated music pushes the entire industry to clarify its practices.
