Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, recently shared his vision of a future where artificial intelligence (AI) plays a central role in individuals' daily lives. He imagines a world where everyone could benefit from a personal superintelligence, a concept based on the idea that personal AI agents could help launch and manage small businesses. According to Zuckerberg, these agents would make many ideas possible that were previously too complex or costly to realize.

In a detailed 6,500-word blog post published on Monday, Zuckerberg laid out his argument for this personal superintelligence. He emphasizes that this technology should be accessible to all, rather than controlled by a small number of companies or institutions. This article, titled "The Future is for Everyone," is part of a series of initiatives by Zuckerberg aimed at highlighting the positive aspects of AI in response to growing concerns about job loss, safety, and the concentration of power. Zuckerberg has recently increased his media appearances, including an editorial in the Wall Street Journal in July, also titled "The Future of AI is for Everyone."

Meanwhile, Meta has launched Muse Glimmer, an AI model that can be downloaded and used on consumer laptops. This initiative had a positive impact on the market, with Meta's shares rising by about 2% during morning trading.

Personal AI Agents: 24/7 Assistance

Zuckerberg envisions a future where every individual could have an "exceptionally capable personal agent." This agent would be able to understand the user's goals, interests, and personal information. It could assist in managing various aspects of daily life, such as personal relationships, health, career choices, finances, household tasks, and even leisure activities.

These AI agents could free up time for users and help them accomplish more tasks. They would be accessible through devices like smart glasses, which Meta is already marketing. Zuckerberg shared that his own AI agent helps him organize his ideas, track his sleep and workouts, and even plan baking projects with his daughter by ordering the necessary ingredients. He had made a similar proposal for personal superintelligence around the same time last year.

Reduction of Traditional Jobs and Rise of Small Businesses

Zuckerberg acknowledges that AI could disrupt the job market, but he also sees an opportunity for transformation. He anticipates that the size of businesses could decrease, as small teams equipped with powerful AI agents would be able to manage large-scale enterprises. While this may mean a reduction in large companies, it could also lead to the creation of many new small businesses.

He emphasizes that AI will not necessarily lead to a decrease in jobs, as it will enable people to create new businesses and services. However, he warns that if automation progresses faster than people's ability to acquire new skills, it could pose a problem. His solution: provide everyone with a personal AI agent to facilitate learning and adaptation.

Zuckerberg cites examples of new jobs that have emerged in recent decades, such as app developers and electric vehicle technicians, and predicts the emergence of new roles, such as "world builders" who will design games and immersive experiences.

One of Zuckerberg's most striking economic predictions is that AI could lower the barriers to entrepreneurship. He explains that individuals will be able to turn ideas into products without needing to raise significant funds or build large teams. AI could take on tasks that would otherwise require specialized staff, making more ideas viable as businesses.

This vision could lead to a more entrepreneurial economy, where small businesses have a significant impact. Meta is committed to making its AI tools accessible to billions of people, with free versions and paid options for increased computing power. Zuckerberg also announced that Meta plans to release more open models to allow everyone to participate in this future.

"For everyone to be part of the future, everyone must have the ability to use superintelligence to improve their lives and shape the world," he wrote.
