Artificial intelligence continues to transform the way we work, and Google is at the forefront with its new autonomous agent, Gemini Spark. This project, which follows the secret initiative Google Remy, promises to revolutionize productivity by directly accessing user data to perform complex tasks while alleviating mental load.
An Ambitious Project Unveiled
The Google Remy project was developed in secret, as revealed by Business Insider. Internally tested for several months, it allowed Google employees to evaluate its capabilities through an exclusive version of the Gemini application. The code name Remy, inspired by the Latin "Remigus" meaning "rower," illustrates the mission of this tool: to work quietly in the background to manage daily logistics.
At the Google I/O 2026 conference, Remy was officially renamed Gemini Spark and launched to the market. This name change marks the integration of this technology into Google's consumer and professional products.
An Innovative Infrastructure
The core of Gemini Spark is based on the multimodal Gemini model, ensuring high execution speed and energy efficiency. With a capacity of two million tokens, it can manage a user's complete digital history without saturation. The orchestration architecture distributes calculations among several specialized micro-agents, allowing for complex scheduling and real-time correction.
The Antigravity structure includes a long-term memory, ensuring perfect continuity of data. User preferences and habits are securely stored, enabling the agent to operate proactively.
A New Era for AI
Unlike traditional chatbots, Gemini Spark operates proactively. The user sets an overarching goal, and the agent autonomously manages the process. This approach transforms AI into a decision-making collaborator, capable of managing schedules and organizing travel without constant human intervention.
Human oversight remains mandatory for critical actions. Google requires human validation for all sensitive operations, thereby ensuring user safety.
Always-On Functionality and Integration into Workspace
Gemini Spark operates on optimized virtual machines within Google Cloud, allowing for continuous operation (Always-On). This infrastructure guarantees constant power, independent of user device performance.
The integration of Gemini Spark into Google Workspace is based on three dimensions: Missions, Skills, and Planning. The agent interacts with Workspace via structured APIs, thus avoiding visual interpretation errors.
Customization and Security
Instruction-based learning allows users to instruct the AI directly in natural language. By explaining how to handle a task, the agent incorporates these instructions to optimize its functioning.
Each task of Gemini Spark is executed in an isolated cloud Sandbox to protect data. Additionally, the agent uses the open MCP protocol to communicate with third-party applications, ensuring secure exchanges.
Global Deployment and European Challenges
Gemini Spark is currently being deployed in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. However, its launch in Europe is delayed due to the strict requirements of the AI Act, which will come into effect on August 2, 2026. This regulation imposes rigorous compliance audits, pushing the European launch to the end of 2026. Google is working to adapt its architecture to comply with European regulations, including the GDPR.
