At the "Android Show: I/O Edition" event, Google unveiled a series of new artificial intelligence features under the Gemini Intelligence brand. These innovations promise to transform the user experience on Android by introducing advanced agentic AI capabilities and customizable widgets.
Enhanced Agentic Capabilities
Gemini, which had already introduced features like food ordering and ride booking, is now enriched with new capabilities. During the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S26 earlier this year, Google announced that Gemini could soon perform more complex tasks, such as booking a front-row bike for a spinning class or finding a course schedule in Gmail and searching for related books.
Now, Google's AI assistant can handle complex multi-step processes, such as copying a grocery list from a notes app and adding the items to a shopping cart in a shopping app. To activate this feature, users simply need to press the power button on their phone and describe the desired task. The phone's screen provides the necessary context to the assistant, which will wait for final confirmation before proceeding with the payment.
Web Navigation and Form Filling
Since January, Gemini has already allowed web browsing and tasks like scheduling appointments as part of an experimental rollout. Now, this automatic navigation feature will be accessible on Android. Furthermore, starting at the end of June, Gemini will be integrated into Chrome on Android, enabling users to summarize content or ask questions about web pages, similar to its functionality on desktop.
Another handy feature is that Gemini will be able to fill out forms on your behalf after learning details about you through Personal Intelligence. Google clarified that this feature is optional and can be disabled at any time in the settings.
Gemini will also be integrated into the Gboard keyboard on Android. Google is leveraging Gemini's multimodal capabilities by introducing a feature called Rambler in Gboard. This feature will allow users to speak in their own tone, transcribe speech, and format it by removing filler words.
Mood-Based Custom Android Widgets
Vibe coding applications are gaining popularity, and Google also wants Android users to benefit from this. The company is introducing a way for users to create Android widgets by describing them in natural language. For example, users can create a meal planning widget using a query text like: "Suggest three high-protein meal prep recipes each week."
The idea of creating a widget is not new for Gemini. Notably, the hardware startup Nothing also released a similar tool last year. Google stated that Gemini Intelligence will follow the expressive design language Material 3 in its features.
The company specified that these AI-powered features will first arrive on the latest Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel devices this summer and will be available on other Android devices later in the year.
