Midjourney, the artificial intelligence lab known for its image and video generators, has recently expanded its scope by acquiring the astrology app Co-Star. This information was reported by Bloomberg, although the financial details of the deal have not been made public.
Co-Star stands out with its 4.3 million monthly active users. The app is popular for its ability to help users create and share their astrological charts. It relies on a combination of artificial intelligence and human writing to provide horoscopes, compatibility assessments, and other personalized advice based on users' astrological data.
Midjourney is almost synonymous with the Discord server where users can generate text and images, as it does not yet have a standalone application. However, the company is also exploring various sectors such as healthcare and wellness, including a spa. The integration of Co-Star could signal a strategic diversification of its offerings.
The Co-Star team, consisting of about two dozen employees, has joined Midjourney as part of this acquisition. Their expertise in developing consumer-facing applications could be a significant asset for Midjourney, which could thus develop its own standalone app, strengthening its presence in the consumer app market.
