A New Era for AI Agents
Artificial intelligence agents are on the verge of taking a significant step forward by making autonomous decisions for humans, particularly in the areas of purchasing and planning. However, Michael Fanous, a former machine learning engineer at CareRev and a UC Berkeley graduate, highlights a major gap: these agents lack the human context necessary to truly understand the people they serve.
Fanous explains that machines currently struggle to connect disparate pieces of information, such as a person's professional profile on LinkedIn, their activity on Instagram, and their public records. To bridge this gap, he partnered with his father, Emad Fanous, a veteran CTO, to create Nyne. This startup aims to become the intelligence that enables agents to better understand humans through their overall digital footprint.
Promising Funding
Nyne recently announced that it raised $5.3 million in a seed funding round. This funding round was led by Wischoff Ventures and South Park Commons, with notable participation from Gil Elbaz, co-founder of Applied Semantics and a pioneer of Google AdSense.
Although the problem seems to be addressed by existing machine learning technologies, Michael Fanous insists that Nyne's solution is unique. Unlike Google, which has exclusive access to users' search histories and cross-platform activity, Nyne seeks to provide an open solution for external agents.
An Innovative Approach
Michael told TechCrunch that Nyne tackles the problem by deploying millions of agents across the Internet to analyze public digital footprints. This data is then processed using advanced machine learning techniques.
Nyne is capable of gathering information about a person by examining not only major social networks like Instagram, Facebook, and X, but also platforms like SoundCloud and Strava. Michael specified: "I can provide them with any information about a person that could be useful for making the right next move." He added: "Once you establish all these connections, you can understand a person quite deeply, their interests, hobbies, and how they think about very specific things."
A Growing Market
As consumer-oriented companies increasingly adopt AI agents, they may turn to Nyne to enhance their understanding of customers. Nichole Wischoff, founder of Wischoff Ventures, believes that the market for this data is immense and crucial for any business looking to effectively reach its customers through AI. She asked: "How can I know that you are pregnant and sell you A, B, or C as soon as possible?"
A Family Collaboration
The partnership between Michael and Emad Fanous is described as ideal by the CEO. Working with his father allows for close collaboration and mutual trust, even in times of intense stress. Michael stated: "If I need to call him at three in the morning to finish a launch, I know he will still love me the next day."
In summary, Nyne positions itself as a key player in the evolution of AI agents, providing them with a more human and nuanced understanding of users, which could transform interactions between businesses and their customers.
