Wabi Launches a Multi-Threaded Shared AI Assistant

Wabi is now accessible to everyone. The AI assistant designed by Eugenia Kuyda focuses on multiple threads, group sharing, and automatic application generation, while displaying SOC 2 compliance. The service is currently free, and its economic framework is yet to be defined.
SOC 2 Privacy and Controlled Data Access
Wabi claims compliance with the SOC 2 standard, with independently audited data security controls. The platform operates entirely in the cloud, and according to Eugenia Kuyda, most user data is stored in the United States. In shared discussions, each user chooses how much information to share, whether it be email, calendar, or banking data. Access to personal information is limited to individual discussions, and all members of a thread can see when a request for access to personal data is made.
Free Today, Business Model to Be Defined, and New Funding on the Horizon
The service is free at this stage, and the company has not yet established a business model. Eugenia Kuyda indicates that she is in talks to raise additional funds. Last year, Wabi had already raised $20 million in pre-seed funding during its initial launch.
An Assistant That Generates Threads and Custom Applications
Wabi presents itself as a multiplayer personal assistant functioning like a messaging service, with dedicated agents for each thread focusing on long-term tasks and goals. Each thread can host custom applications, such as a weight loss tracker or a directory of nearby children's activities. In its version 2.0, the agent autonomously selects the applications to create. After connecting to the email, it automatically generates several threads and applications, which the user can complete by requesting specific apps or opening new threads.

Multi-Threading and Group Use to Avoid Conversational "Clogging"
Eugenia Kuyda relies on a multi-thread architecture and multiplayer usage to stand out from single-thread experiences. She believes that single conversation systems eventually overwhelm the user and degrade with the accumulation of context. Researchers point out that prolonged exchanges increase the risks of hallucinations, loss of context, or blockages due to guardrails. Wabi's threads can be shared and function like group discussions, a format that Kuyda considers still underdeveloped in current agent tools.
From IO Concierge to Replika, Then to Wabi Accessible to All
Twelve years after IO, the conversational concierge presented at Disrupt by the founder of Luka, the trajectory has led to Replika and then to Wabi. IO preceded the breakthroughs in deep learning and, despite some magic according to Kuyda, did not compete with current capabilities. Luka then became Replika, before Kuyda left to create Wabi. The assistant is now available to everyone. In the face of personal assistants like Muse and Instinct, Kuyda asserts that Wabi covers their scope while adding a layer of applications. The product has evolved from a social platform of mini-apps to a system where the agent builds tools, recognizing the demand for personal software without the effort of construction. The relational ambition inherited from Replika, focused on the feeling of loneliness, remains partially present. In practice, a partner can, in a shared thread, ask the assistant about availability or purchases. Kuyda illustrates usage with shared threads including concert tracking, daily questions, restaurant lists, calendar events, and shared readings, or even a family thread focused on schedules and children's activities.
